Mom's Favorite Flowers Are Now a Nation's Tradition
Not everyone knows that it was President Woodrow Wilson, who started the Mother's Day holiday in 1914 by issuing a proclamation, asking Americans to give a public expression of love and appreciation to mothers on this day. The traditional nowadays Carnations, that have come to represent Mother's Day, originated from President William McKinley's habit of always wearing a white carnation, his mother's favorite flower.
Mother’s Day is honored in most countries and cultures of the world with different historical facts and dates to stand. However, the meaning of this day is the same everywhere - from a celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women's economic, political, and social achievements.
In everyday life this is a sweet and joyful day to show your Mom how much you love and care about her. Call your Mom, visit her, bring a present and\or flowers. If you lack time or imagination, you can always present a gift card of your Mom’s favourite store, so that she could finally buy that something she had been looking at for ages. Or, if for some reason you can’t afford much, spend the whole day with your Mom, prepare breakfast-in-bed and do whatever she desires - watch a nice old movie, go through your childhood photos or help her in the garden with her lovely flowers. Just don’t forget that no-one will probably love you as much as she does, no matter what gifts you bring.
